Carats?

This is the word that seems to confuse people so often

alot of people ask me 'carat isnt that the purity of the gold'  or 'isnt the the weight of the diamond'

well its both

a carat when talking about gold is the purity in parts of 1000

so if something is 9ct gold it is 375/1000 (37.5% pure)

we also have lots of other questions about when we buy in scrap gold

all gold that is bought and sold throughout the world is done on a weight basis in grams ,troy ounces and kilos

gold has a universal price across the world and costs the same in every country

when we talk about diamonds related to carats we are talking about the weight of the diamond

this is done in points of a carat

a carat is split up into 100 points

half a carat is 50 points(often written as 0.50ct)

a quarter carat is 25 points (often written as 0.25ct)

1 carat is 100 points and written as 1.00ct

the one part of my job which i truely dislike is when i get asked if it is certified

to break down what a certified diamond is is simple

A DIAMOND CERTIFICATE IS AN OPINION ONLY

if you send a diamond to GIA,IGA,DE BEERS,KIMBERLEY

ALL THEY WILL DO IS GIVE IT TO SOMEONE WHO LOOKS AT DIAMONDS ALL DAY AND HE GIVES HIS 'EDUCATED' OPINION ABOUT THE DIAMOND

THERE IS NO GUARENTEE WITH CERTIFICATES

If you want to buy a certified diamond you usually pay roughly 400% of the actuall worth of the diamond just for the piece of paper saying what it probably is

any jewellery (not including high street shops that sell jewellery such as. h.samules,f.hinds,eatons,beaverbrooks,earnest jones,hpj) these are not jewellers the staff know nothing about jewellery they are sales staff and nothing more

but if you ask a proper working jeweller they can evaluate a diamond and give you about the same sort of estimate as any other diamond evaluators could

so please dont buy certified buy bargains
