Some birthstones can only be represented by coloured crystal due to cost limitations, such as, diamond and ruby, but I am open to enquiries on this. This rule also applies to the intergration of birthstones in bridal accessories. Birthstone jewellery is an ideal gift for a loved one and shows that thought has been put into the gift. The month a person is born determines their birthstone. Cultural differences mean that each month has more than one. In 1912, the Jewellers of America Association devised the standardised list used today. In the list that follows, the main crystals are listed first followed by variants in brackets:
- January- Garnet (Emerald)
- February- Amethyst (Bloodstone)
- March- Aquamarine (Jasper, jade, Bloodstone)
- April- Diamond (Opal, Sapphire)
- May- Emerald (Agate, Sapphire)
- June- Pearl (Alexandrite, Moonstone, Emerald)
- July- Ruby (Onyx)
- August- Peridot (Carnelian, Diamond, Sapphire, Cardonyx)
- September- Sapphire (Agate, Moonstone, Peridot)
- October- Opal (Aquamarine, Jasper Tourmaline)
- November- Topaz (Citrine, Pearl)
- December-Turquoise (Blue Topaz, Onyx, Ruby, Tanzanite, Zircon)
