Assembling Instructions

In order to assemble the device, the car must be parked with the hand brake on.

Assemble the device by placing the elastic behind the wheel starting on the upper edge and coming down as much as possible to the lower end (fig. 1).

Fit 1

Use your hands between the device and the wheel in order to facilitate the assembling operation (fig. 2-3).
Move the vehicle back or forward for about 1 metre.
Complete the assembling by placing all elastic behind the wheel (fig. 4), the device will center itself after driving some 500 metres, after that, stop your car and check the assembling and, in case you need to improve the device positioning.

Fit 2

To remove the device the car must be parked with the hand brake on, pull the device down (fig. 5-6).

Fit 3

Safety Instructions
  • Carefully assemble following the above instructions, use the protective gloves for the hands that are in the bag.
  • Do not stand behind the car due to ice and stones removal.
  • Safely drive: do not exceed 30mph, do not make sudden accelerations or stops.
  • Turn smoothly and avoid skidding.
The use on roads without snow is the cause of a rapid deterioration of the device and has a negative influence on the behaviour of the vehicle. In case of unusual noise, stop the vehicle and check the device conditions.

Remove as soon as possible when they are no longer necessary and the vehicle is parked.

Maintenance Instructions

After using, verify fabric and seam conditions.

Do not use if damaged. Made of a synthetic and water repellent material, it is advisable to dry the device before putting it back in its carry bag.

At the end of the season, wash the device with cold water.

Attention

Mount the devices as soon as it is required by the conditions, do not wait to be weatherbound.

Long lasting use on asphalt road with no snow or ice wears the fabric out.

The use of the device on not asphalted road is not recommended: ground irregularities can cause tears in the fabric.

Use in emergencies. Suitable for coming out from any difficult situation, it does not yet replace metallic chains, where their use is obligatory.

Certifications

After carrying out a series of tests and verifying the productive process, Multigrip obtained the GS seal from TÜV Rheinland, a seal whose origins can be found in German law for equipment safety, but the literal translation of "GS" is not German Safety but "verified safety" instead.

The GS seal is voluntary, it accompanies the product to highlight that a third party has verified its safety aspects and whose production is monitored on a yearly basis. The GS seal shows as follows:

  • A representative sample of the product has been assessed, verified and approved for its safety aspects.
  • Its production is inspected on an annual basis.

As a final attestation of the excellence of the product, in March 2008, the new version of multiagrip successfully completed the tests as required by the ON 5121 regulations for NON metallic anti-skid devices.
This important recognition was awarded after Agripool personnel had been invited to participate in the Technical Committee which then drafted the official documentation now being examined by the Austrian Ministry of Transportation.

Multi Grip is moreover the only textile device today to have passed all the trials provided in the Austrian ÖNORM V 5117 regulations for metal chains.

FAQs

How does Multigrip work?
Thanks to the special geometry of the open weave textile, Multigrip produces on the tyre tread a relief moulding which can penetrate the snowy surfaces, guaranteeing the characteristic gripping effect both longitudinally and crosswise in the direction the car is moving. The Multigrip tread is made of high grip multi-filament thread in 100% recyclable polypropylene.

Does the device wear out on asphalt?
For correct use and longer life, it is advisable to remove the device always when going on asphalted roads.

On which wheels do I need to put them?
The device should be mounted on the traction (motor) wheels.
If you don’t know which are the motor wheels, read the car booklet.
If the car has front wheel traction, the device should be mounted only on the front wheels: in addition to increasing the braking grip while climbing and descending, the grip on curves is also increased because the devices are also on the wheels controlled by the steering.
For cars with rear traction, the device should be mounted on the rear wheels; however, it is advisable to put them on the front wheels too for better steering of the vehicle. On four-wheel drive (4x4) the device should be mounted on all 4 wheels; if you only have one set (one pair of socks) available, put them on the front wheels.

If I exceed the speed limit indicated on the package, can I damage the device?
Increasing your speed will increase the centrifugal force which could lift up the device, causing it to beat against the fender and consequently ruining it.
So it’s highly advised not to exceed the speed limit indicated!

How do I mount the Multigrip?
To mount Multigrip on the car, it must be parked on a level surface, with the hand brake on.
Mount the device on the motor wheels, passing the elastic behind the wheel starting with the upper edge and coming down as far as you can.
Facilitate this by placing your hands inside the device.
Move the car back or forward about 1 metre.
Finish mounting by passing all the elastic behind the wheel.
The device doesn’t have to be perfectly centred on the wheel, you just need to pass all the elastic over the tread: the device will centre itself after having gone a few metres, after which it is advised you stop and check the mounting.

I have a sports car and I find mounting very difficult, what can I do?
In some cases normal mounting of the Multigrip can be difficult: it can happen with all cars having very little space between the wheel and the fender because sometimes you can’t get your hands in there.
There can be sports cars or those with sports trim, cars that have larger wheels either by series or not.
For all these cars, in 99% of the cases, YOU CANNOT MOUNT METAL CHAINS.
You can mount Multigrip!
Our advice is to use a normal jack supplied with the car, not to raise the car but to increase the space between the wheel and the fender a few centimetres so you can mount Multigrip easily.

Which sheath is best for my car?
You need to read the number for the wheel dimensions, which is usually made up of three numbers, for example: 205/55 R16; you can find it on all tyre sidewalls.

Can I mount multigrip on snow tyres?
If the device size is suitable for snow tyre sizes, you can mount them with no problem.

On the package there is a patent number: what is this about?
Multigrip textile is protected by a European patent; the examiner in fact recognised the high level of originality in the special geometry of the textile in that the angle of the open weave guarantees tenacity not only longitudinally but also crosswise in the direction the car is moving.
