MEASURING YOU PET FOR A COLLAR

We often get questions from customers as to which size is right for their pet. Whilst we with gladly offer information and advice ultimately, this decision has to rest with the customer for a number of reasons.

The accurate sizing can only be made if the actual pet is measured.

Mainly because pets of the same breed may differ and have different sizes based on weight, height, length and so forth. The same dog apparel will fit dogs of different breeds and same weight differently. Pets also differ according to breed. Also manufactures sizes vary for example, a certain breed may fit a small for one manufacturer, but may be an extra small for another.

You must measure your pet when it is standing up.

You won't get accurate measurements if the dog is sitting or lying down.

Weight should be used as a guideline only as it will not give an accurate length or width.

DOG COLLARS ~ HOW TO MEASURE FOR A COLLAR
Usually a previous collar (which fits!!) is a good starting place if you want to measure for a new collar, but manufacturers vary on measurements depending on a particular product. For your pet's safety and comfort, please measure for a dog collar by measuring your dog's neck.

As a general guide, you should be able to fit two fingers (flat) easily between the tape and your dog's neck.

Remember, a collar shouldn't be tight around your dog's neck and it wouldn't be the exact measurement of your dog's neck. But for safety reasons....so it doesn't snag on something, it shouldn’t be too loose either. A snug fit is what you are aiming for. Not a tight one or one that chokes.

Collar sizes are the overall size of the collar. Please measure the dogs neck - allow for no more then two fingers space between collar and dogs neck otherwise the dog will invariably slip its collar and also; all leather will 'give' a little over time.

Sizing comparisons: 14" = 36cm - 16" = 41cm - 18" = 46cm - 19" = 49cm
